This December marks the end of an era for the Dune franchise. As the third film hits cinemas, it is the final time we’ll see Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides. For fans of the books, this isn’t exactly surprising, but the actor has confirmed that he’s not holding anything back with this film. Chalamet is intent on giving his most intense performance in the Dune series yet.
The future of the Dune series is going to be out of Timothée Chalamet’s hands no matter what, seeing as the Dune books follow his children going forward. Knowing that, the actor didn’t want to take any of his time on Arrakis for granted. “I didn’t want to be complacent for a single moment,” he said in an interview. “Everything was sacred, and it was my last time doing a ‘Dune’ film, so I really wanted to treat it as sacred. Because people can get complacent, but I was more intense on the third one. It felt like that was the natural momentum, so I wanted to push against that as hard as I could.”
From the sound of it, there is no risk that Timothée Chalamet will have any regrets when he finally departs the Dune series at the end of this year. Dune: Part 3 introduces some surprising new faces to the series. While this is the end of Timothée Chalamet’s time in Denis Villeneuve’s trilogy of Dune films, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be the end of the franchise.
Dune: Part 3 is out on December 18, 2026.
