Deadpool vs Zack Snyder’s DC Universe: Wolverine cameo, Henry Cavill jokes, and eternal Martha shade [Marvel-ous]
In this week's Marvel-ous, we delight in Deadpool's meta Marvel jokes about Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, Justice League, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice movies.

Popverse's top stories
Believe it or not, superhero mercenaries with swords and guns are a dime a dozen in superhero comics - let me tell you about the X-Cutioner one day. Nevertheless, Deadpool elevated himself above the norm with his witty quips and pottymouth, as if Dennis Leary played Spider-Man. Where it particularly sings (and stings) is when Deadpool makes meta jokes about things outside the bounds of the stories he's in. And in the Deadpool comics and the three Deadpool movies to date, his favorite punching bag is Zack Snyder's DC movies.
Every week Popverse embraces its Marvel fandom with an unvarnished, super-saccharine take on a Marvel moment we love in our series, Marvel-ous. This week, we are looking at Deadpool & Wolverine's cameo by Henry Cavill as Wolverine (or Cavillrine) as the latest in a long line of jokes Deadpool has had about Snyder's DC, leading to the dawn of some joke-led justice by the writers over at Marvel.
"OH, MY FUCK! The Cavillrine. The legends are true," says Ryan Reynolds Deadpool when seeing Henry Cavill as a Wolverine variant. "And may I say sir, on behalf of all of humanity, this just feels right! We'll treat you so much better than those shitfucks down the street!"
In the previous film Deadpool 2, Reynolds and the writers make it a point to kick the Snyder movies in the nads on two occasions - from a scene that made it into commercials about Deadpool "fighting a caped bad-ass, only to discover his mom is named Martha, too,", but to Deadpool telling Josh Brolin's Cable "You're so dark. Are you sure you're not from the DC universe?"
The Martha joke, pulled from 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and then almost every conversation people who saw the film had after, is something Deadpool seems particularly attached to. In 2016's Spider-Man/Deadpool #6 comic, Spider-Man and Deadpool go to see a movie called Nighthawk v Hyperion: Yawn of Boredom with the movie's poster even joking "You won't believe their mothers share the same name." A year later in 2017's Deadpool vs. Punisher #5, Deadpool actually re-enacts the Batman/Superman 'Martha' scene but with Frank Castle - to just the results you'd expect.
The Zack Snyder jokes by Deadpool aren't limited to just Martha gags, however; digs at Snyder's DC film-making showed up in Spider-Man/Deadpool #12, and even a series title in Deadpool v Gambit, with a note saying "the v is for vs."
As you'll soon learn if you spend any amount of time on the internet, if you can't enjoy a movie you were looking forward to, then the next best thing is making fun of it - and boy, does Deadpool have some opinions about Zack Snyder's DCU.
