The Engineer is Lex Luthor’s deadly enforcer. But is it possible that she’s something more?
Maria Gabriela de Faria, who plays the Engineer in DC Studios’ upcoming Superman film, thinks so. In fact, she suggested the idea to director James Gunn.
“I told James [Gunn] that Angie really believes in this better world, and probably she had some trauma when she was a kid that she felt the need to be part of that change, whatever that means and whatever she had to do to make it happen,” de Faria says during an interview with the DC Studios Showcase Official Podcast.
“She is a good person at heart, who is extremely broken and is willing to team up with Lex to get rid of what he believes are evil aliens. Supermen. But then I also think that they have a secret relationship, and I kept telling James, ‘I feel like they fuck.’ And Lex is so serious, and then he has this gorgeous girlfriend that he treats terribly. So, I’m like, ‘What if after hours Engineer gets really mean with Lex and he loves it.’ That’s how it plays in my mind.”
Superman hits theaters on July 11. Pay attention to Lex’s chemistry with the Engineer. Maybe there’s something to de Faria’s theory.
