Paul Rudd talks Avengers: Doomsday chair size and Marvel having tighter secrecy than the US Government
"You can’t be frivolous with this kind of stuff. It’s nothing like military secrets or anything, this is a major motion picture," Rudd said during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon

Paul Rudd has opened up about what it felt like to watch Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday livestream announcement and see that his director’s chair was significantly smaller than everyone else’s — and also talked about just how seriously Marvel Studios takes its secrecy… well, as much as he can.
“I don’t know,” he told Jimmy Fallon during an appearance on NBC’s The Tonight Show. “You know, I thought, ‘Oh, that’s clever! Yes, I’m Ant-Man.’ But there’s still a part of you that’s, like, a little… it’s a little emasculating to have a little, tiny, tiny chair, but at least [it’s] one that will actually fit me when I sit down.”
For anyone who hasn’t seen the post-livestream photo of all the chairs lined up, there’s a full-size Paul Rudd chair in there, which either means Rudd gets two chairs, or else the tiny, emasculating chair was just a special effect. (Surely one too expensive for a livestream, no matter how successful that livestream may be.)
Rudd also joked about how secretive Marvel is about upcoming projects. “There is nothing that I can tell you,” he said. “They are very secretive. It’s really… it’s important. Clearly, as we know, they never announce anything. This is, you know, it’s a major movie. You can’t be frivolous with this kind of stuff. It’s nothing like military secrets or anything, this is a major motion picture... It’s Marvel, Jimmy, it’s important.”
Sarcasm and a dig at the Trump administration leaking classified military secrets via an unsecured group chat? That’s the kind of ability to multitask we want to see in our future Avengers. Although somewhere, Captain America is probably shaking his head and wondering why we can’t all get along.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released May 1, 2026. Watch Rudd’s appearance on The Tonight Show below.
