David Harbour went into Avengers: Doomsday "not even convinced" about the massive Marvel event - then the Russo Brothers changed his mind
Harbour, who plays Red Guardan in the MCU, says brothers Joe and Anthony Russo have a "special sauce" when it comes to making movies like Avengers: Infinity War and the upcoming Doomsday

I guess when you've been to the Upside Down, battled the Apocalypse to which you are heir, and violently defended the Christmas Spirit, it takes a lot to impress you. But according to David Harbour, who has done all of those things, two of his current collaborators have just what it takes to get the Red Guardian actor excited about being on set.
Harbour, who Marvel fans recently saw in this year's Thunderbolts* (or was it the New Avengers? I'm still unclear) recently sat down with ScreenRant to chat about his experience working on the mCU's next tentpole film, the Robert Downey Jr.-resurrecting Avengers: Doomsday, the making of which he real-life Red Guardian had gone into with a fair amount of skepticism.
"I was not even convinced when we started," Harbour tells the outlet, "And this movie's gonna be really good. They have a special sauce. I don't even really understand, but they just know how to do these things. And I think that as evidenced in Civil War, as evidenced in Infinity War, there's something about the layers in which they put the comedy and the drama and the surprises and the scale and the epicness and all that stuff. It's incredible."
From his time as Jim Hopper on the set of Stranger Things to his run as an action hero Santa Claus in Violent Night (and its upcoming sequel), Harbour has been a part of some beloved, massive franchises in the past couple of years (hell, this guy is the DCU's Frankenstein!). But as many big name projects as he's tackled, says Harbour, none are like this.
"I will say I've never been on a set like this in my life," Harbour said, "I've never seen anything like this."
Referencing Marvel's infamous reveal of the Doomsday cast list, the actor concluded, "You saw those chairs. So it's like, every one of those guys and girls has a trailer. It's just insane to look around the room and be like, "Oh my god, I'm in the movie. There's what's his face doing that speech". It's just enormous."
Avengers: Doomsday (featuring our pal Red Guardian) heads to theaters December 18, 2026.
