Girls creator Lena Dunham and pop icon Carly Rae Jepsen are turning 1999 romcom 10 Things I Hate About You into a Broadway musical

10 Things I Hate About You? More like 10 Things I Really, Really, Really Like [About] You, according to Carly Rae Jepsen

In this week's edition of "I am feeling old and confused," we have a new Broadway musical from Lena Dunham and Carly Rae Jepsen based off of the 1999 romantic comedy movie, 10 Things I Hate About You.

As reported by Billboard, popstar Carly Rae Jepsen will co-write the score with Ethan Gruska, who she worked with for her most recent album, The Loveliest Time. Lena Dunham is set to co-write the script with Jessica Huang, an award-winning playwright.

This isn't Jepsen's first rodeo with Broadway. The singer starred in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella in 2014, but this is her first time writing songs for the stage. Likewise, 10 Things I Hate About You will be Dunham's Broadway debut.

Also keep in mind, 10 Things I Hate About You is a retelling of Shakespeare's play, The Taming of The Shrew. So maybe there's something full circle going on here - that a story that originated on the stage hundreds of years ago, only to be reimagined for the screen, is making its way back to its original medium. Sort of. This time it just has a lot more singing.
