It sure seems like What We Do in the Shadows is bringing back its best joke for season 6
Speaking at New York Comic Con 2024, What We Do in the Shadows executive producer Paul Simms teased a possible return for Jackie Daytona, regular human bartender

What We Do in the Shadows is ending. I know, it's a travesty. However, it sure seems like they're explorng new territory in their final go 'round, and in one instance, returning to a much-beloved (but thus far rarely seen) staple of the show. If writer and executive producer Paul Simms is to be taken literally, it sure seems like Jackie Daytona, regular human bartender will be returning to screen for a last hurrah.
If you're not caught up, Jackie Daytona is the alternate identity of Laszlo Cravensworth, played by Matt Berry. He first appeared in the memorable sixth episode of the second season, On the Run, and has since been the subject of cosplay, fan art, and a universe of middling party impressions. He was also a popular topic of conversation at the What We Do in the Shadows panel during New York Comic Con 2024, where both Berry and Simms were panelists.
At one point, Simms was asked about the restraint the show has used in not bringing Jackie Daytona back. If they introduced a character with the reception he'd gotten, the moderator said, "most shows wold have chased that goddamn feeling and brought Jackie back season after season, episode after episode."
"It never would have been as good as the first time," laughed Simms, "It lives forever as a perfect thing."
That got a round of applause from the audience, but Simms wasn't done talking about Jackie Daytona. And it seems, the audience might not be done seeing him on the show.
"You get to the last season of a show, though," Simms said slyly, "And you think... sometimes... maybe... do we want to give them another taste of what they love so much. I'm not making any promises, but we'll see."
Well we'll be keeping an eye out, Paul. If What We Do in the Shadows has to end, we'd love to see it go out alongside the favorite son of Tuscon, Arizonia.
What We Do in the Shadows season 6 airs on FX October 21, and streams on Hulu the next day.
