Disney's Goosebumps season 2 has The Blair Witch Project's Eduardo Sánchez directing a found footage episode

The Goosebumps: The Vanishing producers brought their season 2 cast and big news to New York Comic Con 2024

Near the end of their New York Comic Con 2024 panel laying out season two of their popular Disney+ anthology series Goosebumps, Goosebumps: The Vanishing co-creator Rob Letterman and showrunner Hillary Winston dropped the huge reveal that one of the show’s episodes will be a found footage episode directed by Blair Witch Project's Eduardo Sánchez.

Amongst the many Goosebumps storylines of season two, which involve a haunted car, monster blood, and some very, very upsetting plants, the bigger mystery involves the disappearance 30 years beforehand of a group of teenagers. “30 years ago, a group of teenagers break into an old fort on a dare to sleepover in a room where they heard that the  military did some crazy experiments,” Letterman explains. “And those teens vanish, and are never seen again. Ostensibly were killed that night.”

David Schwimmer plays Anthony, the brother of one of the teens who disappeared.  When his son Devin (Sam McCarthy) ventures back into the fort with a group of other teenagers, and…things happen…it reopens the question of what happened back then. And somewhere along the road someone comes upon a tape from a camcorder—a 1990s device that was used to record video, my fellow kids—taken by one of the vanished kids. Sánchez will direct the episode showing that video. “We watched the first cut in stunned silence,” Winston says.

“There are no visual effects,” Letterman added. “He shot it on a High 8 camera—we had to find it on eBay, and sometimes it didn’t work. But it is truly authentic, and it is just terrifying.”

Goosebumps: The Vanishing drops on Disney+ on January 10, 2025.
