The Dune: Prophecy cast and showrunners came to New York Comic Con 2024 bearing great teaser-y joy for the thousands of Duneheads fans gathered to learn details of the new series debuting November 17th on Max. But the one reveal that absolutely no one could have expected concerned neither spice nor sandworms, but shoes.

As the cast praised the incredible costumes on the show, Jessica Barden, who plays the younger version of Emily Watson’s leader of the Bene Gesserit predecessor the Sisterhood, stepped in. “I want to tell you something about the costumes that you’re not going to see on the TV show. The footwear was Nike Airs.”

For those listening who thought this wasn’t really costuming per se, but more an allowance for actors to wear whatever they want under their robes, Barlen made clear, this was not the case. “There was like this Dune ‘X,’” she said. “My first day on set they gave me these shoes and I was like, ‘Whoa, the Dune space dudes wear Nike Airs footwear.”

“It really cracked me up.”
