Shipping is nearly as important to fandoms as comic conventions are these days, so when the two overlap, we have to take notice. At LA Comic Con this year, the topic of shipping came up at the crowded Avatar: The Last Airbender panel, which featured voice actor Olivia Hack. Hack, who portrays the character of Ty Lee in the original 2005 animated series, apparently has an ATLA ship of her own, one she shares with some online fans.

"Ty Lee is so important to the show," Hack said at the panel, "because really like she is kind of the most powerful of them all, in terms of like being able to take away bending all of that. Her dynamic with Azula... and I know that there's a lot of people that ship Tyzula in their own way. Which, I ship Tyzula, so I'm a fan of that narrative."

In case you're not aware, the characters of Ty Lee and Azula are starkly different, with Ty Lee being a better-hearted character (if occasionally an immature one), and Azula being... well, not that.

At this point in the panel, fellow panelist Jack De Sena, who played Sokka in the series, brought up an issue he had with the crowd. "Not a single Boo from the crowd for Tyzula?"De Sena asked in mock horror, "People need to have healthier standards of relationships!"

Laughing, Hack responded. "But here's the thing!" she protested, "It's important to have all types of relationships be represented, and some are toxic. You learn from toxic relationships!"

While Hack didn't back down from her ship, the actress did point out that what she (and a host of fans) were proposing never actually happens on the series. "Azula gets her comeuppance and Ty Lee comes into her power and all that. Really I think everybody learns a lot in terms of bending from Ty Lee, so that's pretty cool."

Pretty cool indeed. Especially to a very particular corner of Tumblr.
