Ted Lasso's Brett Goldstein reveals what it’s like to write dialogue for Harrison Ford
“It’s very exciting,” Shrinking producer Brett Goldstein discusses what it’s like to write dialogue for Harrison Ford
Popverse was there for all four days of New York Comic Con 2024, immersing ourselves in the pop culture party full of vendors, events, and celebrities from the worlds of comics, movies, TV, gaming, and more. Harrison Ford has had an interesting acting career. He’s been an intergalactic captain, a Nazi-fighting-archeologist, the President of the United States, and next year he’ll be a Red Hulk.
Imagine how intimidating it must be to write dialogue for an actor like that. You’re putting words in the mouth of somebody who has performed for George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and Francis Ford Coppola.
Harrison Ford is currently costarring in Shrinking, a television comedy streaming on Apple TV+. Ford plays Dr. Paul Rhoades, a grumpy but loveable therapist.
During a Shrinking spotlight panel at New York City Comic Con 2024, executive producer and series co-creator Brett Goldstein was asked what it was like to write dialogue for Harrison Ford. “Everyone else is much more relaxed about it. I’m like three years into working with Harrison Ford and there’s not a single moment that goes by that I don’t think, ‘Fucking hell. I’m working for Harrison Ford.’ I mean, every time I’m just writing and going, ‘Harrison Ford’s gonna say that.’ It’s very exciting.”
I can’t say I blame him. Imagine getting paid to put words in Han Solo’s mouth. Wouldn’t you feel intimidated knowing that Indiana Jones was going to perform something you wrote?
Shrinking season 2 is currently airing on Apple TV+.
