Collectibles at Comic Con usually point to the past - they're rare comic books from the 70s, a misprint action figure from the 90s, or some clippings of David Boreanaz's hair from Buffy S3 (hey, we don't judge). But at San Diego this year, DC fans get to collect merchandise that points to the future, as the DC Booth is debuting its very first Superman and Creature Commandos merch at their booth.
Of course, Superman and the CC aren't the only characters stamped onto DC's SDCC offerings, but they do stand out - this is in many ways the debut of the James Gunn/Peter Safran-led DCU, considering it's the first licensed merchandise to come out of any properties under that umbrella.
So just what kind of DCU merch is available at their Comic Con table (which is Booth #4545, if you're wondering)? We'll be happy to explain.
First up is a Creature Commandos t-shirt, going for $37 and available in limited quantities each day of the convention. Next up are an enamel pin, black baseball cap, and blue t-shirt, all emblazoned with the Superman S-Shield as worn by David Corenswet in the DCU; these, too, will be available in limited quantities every day.
But what you've really got to look out for, if you're on the hunt for DCU merch this year, are the special edition comic books with DCU art on the covers. Among their ranks is a facsimile copy of All-Star Superman #1 by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely sporting that snazzy S-Shield and a Creature Commandos #! featuring the motley crew of monsters that will kick off the DCU this year. Both of these comics are limited to 500 copies across the entire convention, so get 'em while they last.
And if you're into DC's comic con merchandise but don't need it to be DCU-specificm, tehre's plenty of other cool stuff at Booth #4545. IN fact, we've got a full list of what they're offering right here:
