Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth's most memorable recording session? Four hours of ribbiting

FFVII: Rebirth voice actor Britt Baron joked at PAX West 2024 that she's "blocked it out" when asked to repeat her marathon frog session

Sometimes, video game voice actors have to do some… strange things for their job. Take Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s Britt Baron, who is still thinking about spending four hours spent pretending to be a frog for the hit game.

Speaking at PAX West 2024 on Sunday, Baron was asked if there was a particularly memorable recording session for the fan-favorite game. “I would say the ribbits at four hours stick out in my memory,” she deadpanned to laughs from the crowd. “As a voice actor, I don’t even get any warning, so, like… ‘what do I have to do…?’ And you have to do a bunch of takes, and sometimes it is [trying to sync with visuals], and so you're standing there trying to make weird sounds, so ultimately, those are the kind of… the trauma!”

“Can I tell you, when I got to that part in the game, I said I was so jealous that I don't get to do the ribbits like Britt got to do,” added fellow panelist (and fellow Final Fantasy VII Rebirth voice actor) Briana White. “I was so jealous.

Pretending to be the director of the session, Baron joked, “‘Okay, now try and add emotion to that…!’”

When asked to demonstrate her ribbiting technique, Baron demurred. “I blocked it out,” she told the crowd.
