James Tynion IV announces a new horror universe with Michael Walsh from Image Comics, launching with 2025's Project Exquisite

Tynion wasn't ready to announce the full title of the 2025 horror series, but did say it was the foundation of a new horror universe at Image Comics next year

Sure, it’s all well and good to watch publishers like Marvel, DC, and Skybound build out boutique lines such as Absolute, Ultimate, and the Energon Universe, but when will horror fans get their chance to watch a line start from scratch?

2025, says Tiny Onion’s James Tynion IV.

Teased — but purposefully not announced — during the Lunar Distribution event at New York Comic Con 2024’s Retailer Day, Tynion teased a collaboration with artist Michael Walsh to be published through Image Comics midway through next year. “We wanted to bring a horror event to the comics space, and this is what we’re going to be hitting the ground with next year,” the writer behind such hits as Something is Killing the Children and The Nice House on the Lake teased. Currently going by the working title ‘Project Exquisite,’ the book “is more than just a comic series and we’ll be able to explain all the reasons behind that” in the weeks and months to come, with Tynion IV describing the larger project as “my effed-up Energon Universe.”

The complete title will be revealed later in the winter, Tynion IV promised, apologizing to the assembled crowd by saying, “I’m very, very excited about this book. It’s very very hard to talk about this without revealing everything.”

The final slide of his presentation about Project Exquisite perhaps summed up the message to everyone in the room eager to find out more, reading simply, “Happy Hunting.”
