Popverse was there for all four days of New York Comic Con 2024, immersing ourselves in the pop culture party full of vendors, events, and celebrities from the worlds of comics, movies, TV, gaming, and more. Near the end of the Venom: The Last Dance panel at New York Comic Con 2024, writer/director Kelly Marcel was asked about the then-rumored (and now, as everyone who's seen the movie now that it's in theaters, confirmed) presence in the film of Knull... and she teased that we might see a lot more from the character in the future.

"This is just the introduction to Knull,” she explained. “He’s a massive, massive character. You could never do one-and-done with him. So, this is just a little taster of Knull.”

In Marvel's comic book canon, Knull is the creator and lord of all symbiotes and a figure of such cosmic power he rivals Thanos. (Of course, that doesn't mean that he can't be taken down by the assembled heroes of the Marvel Universe; we refer you to 2020's King in Black event for that storyline.)

Venom: The Last Dance tells the story of what Marcel calls a “road trip movie,” with Eddie Brock and Venom on the run after the revelation of their existence to the public at the end of Venom 2. At NYCC 2024, Marcel confirmed they’re being hunted by both human beings and aliens. “The more they stay together,” Marcel says, “the more they realize that their being together is putting the whole world in jeopardy.”

Could those aliens, who in footage appear like giant mutant scorpion-spiders, be agents of Knull himself? And where will he appear next? Marcel wasn’t spoiling everything head of release. “What the future is for him,” Marcel said with a smile, “who knows?”
