Karate Kid: Legends will "finally unite all the different branches”

Sony Pictures drops a first trailer for its newest installment in the Miyagiverse at NYCC

As part of its hour-long panel featuring upcoming movies, Sony Pictures released the poster and first trailer for Karate Kid: Legends. Starring Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, the film promises to “finally unite all the different branches” of Karate Kid lore, promised host Josh Horowitz.

In the trailer - as yet unavailable online - Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han from the 2010 film The Karate Kid brings a pupil to Ralph Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso. While the reason is not explained, Chan’s Han makes it clear they didn’t come looking for Mr. Miyagi’s instruction, but for Daniel’s.

Much of the footage features newcomer Ben Wang in classic Karate Kid situations—picked on at school, fighting in what looks like impromptu teen matches, and finally donning the classic Karate Kid bandana. Cobra Kai did not feature in the trailer, and it remains an open question whether anyone from that TV series will appear beyond Macchio.

Karate Kid: Legends, the sixth film in the Karate Kid franchise, will make its theatrical release on May 30th, 2025.
