Popverse was there for all four days of New York Comic Con 2024, immersing ourselves in the pop culture party full of vendors, events, and celebrities from the worlds of comics, movies, TV, gaming, and more. Venom: The Last Dance star (and co-writer!) Tom Hardy came to NYCC along with writer/director Kelly Marcel and co-stars Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor to tease the conclusion of the Venom trilogy, which debuts October 24th. And after conversation with Marcel and Hardy and Temple and Ejiofor, who play humans hunting Eddie and Venom—though with very different perspectives, we got to see a sequence from the film in which Eddie and Venom are attacked by Ejiofor’s soldiers.

The sequence begins with the introduction of the now-fabled Venom Horse, whom Venom does a kind of baby-talk with before transforming it, saying “Surprise, Horsey!” Then we get to see them race through Western-style mesas, the horse leaping off cliffsides with abandon and only increasing our desire for a Venom Horse spinoff. (Think of it like Kelly Thompson’s Jeff the Land Shark, but with violence. It’s totally doable.)

Coming to a racing river they’re attacked by Ejiofor’s men, leading to Eddie and Venom being separated. As Venom races to get to Eddie along the increasingly fast river, he ends up hopping onto first a fish, then a frog, for what is only an instant and yet looks so great that it feels like longer. (Frogs with teeth, it turns out, are both amusing and disturbing.)

And as the battle between men and our heroes really locks in, they’re all set upon by one of these aliens we’ve been seeing in trailers, a massive six-legged creature vibing spider-meets-scorpion with two or three tails and face that is entirely a mouth of teeth. While it’s unclear what these aliens are, some have speculated these are meant to be the movie version of Xenophages, aliens who hunt Symbiotes.

The soldiers are no match for this creature. It quickly devours two of them, and each time it does, the soldiers’ blood seems to shoot out the back of its head, in what seems like the human equivalent of an orange press. But they do provide enough of a distraction for Eddie and Venom to escape.

As the footage ended, the crowd cheered, pleased to see it looks like Marcel, Hardy, and company have given their heroes the crazy, chaotic, and at times wacky ending they deserve.
