In the past few years Chris Pratt has trained dinosaurs, saved the Mushroom Kingdom, wrapped up a Marvel Studios trilogy, and ate a lot of lasagna.

Needless to say, the actor has probably earned a break.

That’s just what Pratt thought he was going to do, until he read the script for The Electric State. The upcoming Netflix film is based on a 2018 graphic novel that depicts a dystopian version of the 1990s where robots had taken over. Pratt was instantly hooked.

Speaking at New York City Comic Con’s Electric State spotlight panel, Pratt recalled his initial reaction to the script. “I had intended to take a chunk of time off to be home, and then I read this script, and I was like, ‘Ehhh fuck, I guess I have to do this movie.’ It was so good and opportunities like this just don’t come around that often. To work with such an incredible team.”

Of course, he had to clear it with his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger first. “I even had my wife read it. She was like, ‘Yeah, I think you have to do this movie. So, I got permission from mama and got to play with the boys and the girls.”

“I looked at the script and it was an original IP. It was adapted of course from an incredible graphic novel. But it’s not the kind of thing that typically gets made to be a blockbuster style movie like this. It’s so original, it’s a huge swing. I thought this might be my last opportunity to be in a big movie like this. I have to look at every opportunity like that,” Pratt gushed.

"It was just such a great story. I was moved to tears reading it. When you get to see the movie, you'll see."

The Electric State will premiere on Netflix on March 14, 2025.
