Did you enjoy Brie Larson’s performance in The Marvels? You may have RuPaul to thank for that. Let’s face it, filming a Marvel Studios movie involves long hours, intense physical workouts, and insane pressure. It’s enough to bring anyone down, even if they’re Captain Marvel. However, Brie Larson has some advice for how to keep things in perspective.
Speaking to a crowd at Fan Expo Denver, Brie Larson revealed her tips for staying sane on set. Here’s a hint - they involve RuPaul’s Drag Race. “Learn how to take care of yourself at the end of the day. We care so much about technique and about performing, but we don’t discuss that sometimes you end up in a hotel room in a random place feeling very lonely. And you’re like, ‘What was that? That was really sad. That was really hard.’ Because you’re still kind of living it even though it’s not your life.”
This self-care includes passing time by playing UNO and watching Drag Race. “Watching Drag Race could do wonders. For The Marvels I was watching Drag Race because we start so early on those jobs, like 3 in the morning, I’m having coffee and watching Drag Race.”
“I always have games on set. UNO, or Spot it, or Code Names. Those are great ways for people to play, hang out, and move through things.”
Honestly, a day playing UNO with Captain Marvel while watching Drag Race feels like the best kind of self-care. When can we all sign up?
