How Marvel Studios' Daredevil actor Charlie Cox snuck into New York Comic Con to take his daughter to her first con without being noticed
He went to last year's NYCC as Bluey, but it turns out, Charlie Cox has been at the show in disguise even before then...

New York Comic Con 2024 is just around the corner, which means we’re closing in on the first anniversary of that time Charlie Cox dressed up as Bluey to visit NYCC without anyone noticing, an event that lives on in many people’s memories as prime example of just how wonderful Marvel Studios’ Daredevil really is.
“I took my daughter to her first comic con, to New York Comic Con last year. But obviously, I have to dress up so I can actually go walk around,” Cox explained during a a recent (official, on-stage) appearance at Rose City Comic Con 2024 when faced by a cosplayer who was specifically dressed as Cox’s own cosplay of Bluey. “I went as Gouda Bluey, which is Bluey — you guys know Bluey — but it's with a yellow Baltimore jersey.”
Explaining quite why he was so amused to the crowd, Cox indicated the cosplayer and said, “This gentleman is dressed as… this is pretty meta right now. He’s cosplaying at me cosplaying.”
Turns out, Bluey wasn’t Cox’s first time cosplaying at NYCC.
“I went to do a panel at the New York Comic Con about four or five years ago, then there was a rainstorm when I was meant to leave, and so they couldn't get me out. We couldn't leave because all the cars were shut down,” he said. “We're stuck at New York Comic Con behind the scenes and I had a friend with me. I had him go out and buy just like any mask, so I could just walk around the convention center and see it. I had never really seen it. He found me like a really cheap Spider-Man mask… We're walking around and then I saw someone dressed as Daredevil, so I kind of went up to him and was like, ‘Can I take a photo with you?’ Then they were like, ‘Sure,’ because everyone's taking photos. Then I was like, ‘Dammit, my phone's run out of battery. Can we use your phone?’ We took his phone out, my buddy Sean got the photo looking and then I would take the mask off [without them seeing my face]. Then mask on, say, ‘Thank you,’ and hand him his phone. We did it to like 12 or 13 people.”
The gag was, of course, that the fans wouldn’t realize they’d taken a selfie with, you know, Daredevil until they check their photos later.
“It was really cool. People would be like, ‘I was just hanging out and then this complete weirdo with a really bad costume asked to take a photo with my phone,’ then they realized,” Cox remembered, laughing. “It was pretty cool.”
New York Comic Con 2024 is once again happening at the Javits Center, running October 17 through October 20. Cox isn’t officially on the guest list, but as we now know, that doesn’t mean that he won’t be there anyway, where you least expect him. Just look out for all the cosplayers and just wonder…
