Spoilers for The Penguin Episode 4 follow!
At the Penguin’s press junket at New York Comic Con 2024, lead actor Cristin Milioti (Sofia Falcone) shared stories of filming the astonishing fourth episode of the series, in which [spoilers!] Sofia murders almost the entirety of her family and we see firsthand what it was like for her being locked away in Arkham.
“The script was so incredible,” she said. “There was so much in there. And Helen Shaver, who was our director of that episode is just extraordinary. We shot that episode in 10 days—Arkham five and the rest of it, all of those flashbacks, the dinner [in episode five]. That’s so fast. And me and Lauren and Helen really dove in together.”
The Arkham scenes were particularly thrilling. “As a lifelong fan, putting that uniform on, and being on that set felt very, very cool,” she said. She praised the other actors on set for what they brought to the overall experience. “The women in Arkham, every one of those actors was so present and so invested, and came in with their own characters. That was incredible.”
The episode has garnered a huge reaction from fans, which Milioti admits, “I did not expect. I try to keep my expectations so, so low.“
“I’ve been profoundly moved. I think I haven’t fully taken it in.”
The Penguin continues on HBO every Sunday, and streams on Max. New York Comic Con 2024 continues through October 20 at the Javits Center.
