Sure, you've seen the Masters of the Air show with Austin Butler and Callum Turner on Apple TV, but have you read the book yet? There's never been a better time to delve into Masters of the Air: How the Bomber Boys Broke Down the Nazi War Machine by Donald L. Miller, because now it's getting a brand new, gorgeous deluxe edition from The Folio Society.

In case you're not familiar, The Folio Society is known for its fancy hardback versions of beloved books by authors from Jane Austen, to Ian Fleming, to Maggie O'Farrell, to Haruki Murakami, to George R.R. Martin, to Gabrielle Zevin, to Kazuo Ishiguro, and more. The Folio Society's printing of Masters of the Air will feature an introduction by Tom Hanks (!) and Kirk Saduski and over 60 new photographs, some of which you can view below.

The summary of the book is as such: "In Masters of The Air: How the Bomber Boys Broke Down the Nazi War Machine, historian and World War II expert Donald Miller brings us the story of the bomber boys who brought the war to Hitler's doorstep. Unlike ground soldiers, they slept on clean beds, drank beer in local pubs, and danced to the swing music of the travelling Air Force bands. But they were also an elite group of fighters who put their lives on the line in the most dangerous role of all. Drawn from interviews, oral histories, and American, British and German archives, Masters of The Air takes readers from the adrenaline filled battles in the sky, to the airbases across England, the German prison camps, and onto the ground to understand the devastation faced by civilians."

Author Donald L. Miller offered praise for the Folio Society edition of the book, saying, "I could not be more pleased with the enhancements that have transformed Masters of the Air, here introduced by Tom Hanks, producer of the film faithfully based on the book, into a collector’s delight: from the quality of paper and print, to the striking new artwork, to the handsome sleeve, and to the magnificent new photographs and illustrations, many in print for the first time. Working on this new edition with the Folio Society’s highly professional and deeply dedicated team was pure delight.”

The edition will number 728 pages and will be bound in "printed and blocked cloth," and will include a slipcase, "original illustrations from a 1940s B-17 manual stored in a separate pouch," and "an exclusive reproduction of a famous piece of aviation art by master artist Gil Cohen.

The Folio Society edition of Masters of the Air: How the Bomber Boys Broke Down the Nazi War Machine will be available for $145 at 11 AM EST on March 3, 2026 exclusively at the Folio Society's website
