The Baby-Sitters Club author Ann M. Martin talks first-time convention experience at NYCC

Hopefully, New York Comic Con 2025 marks the dawn of a new comic con tradition for the legendary author

During New York Comic Con 2025, Popverse’s Ashley V. Robinson got the chance to sit down in the Studio with legendary author Ann M. Martin. The creator of the beloved Baby-Sitters Club, Martin needs no introduction for readers of a certain age. In more recent years, Scholastic Graphix has begun adapting The Baby-Sitters Club prose novels into a graphic format. And NYCC ’25 was especially exciting, because it was Martin’s first time ever attending a comic convention.

Appropriately, Robinson introduced Martin as “the icon of my childhood and yours.” Robinson asked Martin how her comic convention had been so far. “It’s been great,” Martin answered. “This is my first comic con ever.” Robinson quickly noted that Martin had chosen North America’s biggest comic con to start with. “Very casual,” Robinson quipped.

Next Robinson asked Martin how the convention and fans had benefited. “Wonderful,” Martin answered. “Appreciative. Good questions. Yeah, it’s been great. And more now than before, adult fans who read the books when they were kids.” Robinson asked Martin if she had received any gifts from fans, and while Martin confirmed that usually happened, it hadn’t so far at NYCC. However, Robinson pointed out that it was only Friday.
