Jurassic World 4 (Or is it Jurassic Park 7?) gets a release date and a director

They're moving 'velociraptor fast' on this one.

The next Jurassic World movie is really hitting the fast lane, as Universal has begun talks with John Wick veteran and Deadpool 2 and Bullet Train director David Leitch to helm the sequel. The studio is also eyeing a summer 2025 release.

Deadline dropped the exclusive yesterday, February 5, saying Leitch had engaged "early talks" with the studio after veteran Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp turned in a script that the studio is happy with. Unconfirmed reports last month suggested Universal and Amblin had already done a lot of preparation work on the movie before even landing a director, so it makes half-sense that July 2, 2025, is the proposed release date (now fully confirmed by the official accounts).

Leitch is already releasing a Universal-backed movie in theaters this year, on May 3: The Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. The fact they're willing to sign him up as soon as possible for a quick shoot on the next Jurassic World possibly indicates they're quite happy with the movie he's about to turn in. But even if Leitch is an all-around reliable action director who works fast and makes his movies look and feel nice, can the (solid) creatives possibly put together a good Jurassic World movie in time for summer 2025?

Despite being largely rejected by critics and diehard fans of the series, the last Jurassic World installment managed to bite off more than $1 billion worldwide before hitting the domestic market, so we can see where Universal is coming from.

Do the powers that be care enough about putting out a better fourth (seventh if you count the Jurassic Park movies) installment though? Probably not, and this production and post-production window only intensifies our concerns, but the talent involved isn't looking bad so far. We want to remain hopeful.

Here's how to watch all the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies & TV shows to date.
