Smile, you son of a b**ch: Jaws 1, Jaws 2 and Jaws 3 are returning to Netflix. The seminal seafaring blockbuster movies that made at least two generations too afraid to go in the water is going to be available for streaming on Netflix this fall. Fortunately, you won’t have to wait too long before the sweet sound of that ominous string section is reaching your ears. Read on to learn everything we know about the release date of Jaws 1 through 3 on Netflix.
The origin story of the shark-starring franchise is one of the best known Hollywood production stories. Based on the 1974 novel by Peter Benchley, the original Jaws was a near-disaster. Among the challenges facing director Steven Spielberg were technical problems involving the movie’s mechanical shark model (nicknamed "Bruce"). But in spite of the difficulties during production, Jaws is considered a turning point in the movie industry, as it is considered to be the first big screen blockbuster. While the movie’s budget was $9 million, it earned an incredible $476.5 million.
For obvious reasons, sequels were inevitable. In 1978, Jaws 2 debuted, directed by Jeannot Szwarc. This was followed by Jaws 3 (or Jaws 3-D) in 1983, directed by Joe Alves. And soon, all three of these movies will be available to watch on Netflix. The release date Jaws 1, Jaws 2 and Jaws 3 will arrive for streaming on Netflix is Sunday, September 1, 2024. And that's only one of the exciting titles you can expect to stream as autumn 2024 arrives.
That isn’t every movie in the franchise. The fourth and final film, 1987's Jaws: The Revenge, is currently available for streaming on Max and Hulu. And of course, the Back to the Future-promised 2015 sequel Jaws 19, to be directed by Steven’s son Max, never came to fruition. But hey, Lea Thompson is in Jaws 3! Will you be streaming the first three Jaws movies when they arrive on Netflix?
