James Tynion IV is having quite a year — he launched his production shingle back in February — it’s already doubled in size, impressively — and at C2E2, it was announced that he was partnering with Boom! Studios for a curated campaign celebrating the tenth anniversary of both parties working together. That campaign starts…now.
What’s called the James Tynion IV: The First Decade at Boom! Studios - Boom! Direct Reserve Campaign — yes, we know it’s a mouthful — won’t only feature new collected editions of titles including The Woods, Memetic: The Apocalyptic Trilogy, and Something is Killing the Children featuring new covers from each title’s co-creators (Michael Dialynas, Eryk Donovan, and Werther Dell’Edera, respectively); it will also include an all-new title, The Art of Something is Killing the Children, featuring rare and unseen sketches, design work, artwork, and commentary from both Dell’Edera and Tynion.
Beyond the chance to reserve a copy of that exclusive release, fans who sign up to the campaign in its first 48 hours will also receive another exclusive: the Something is Killing the Children #1 Scriptbook, reproducing Tynion’s original script for the first issue of the hit horror series. Boom! promises more limited edition material and even a secret announcement will be part of the campaign as part of its Stretch Goals... including reprints of the first issues of each of the three titles with new cover artwork, which you can see below.

“It’s hard to believe it’s already been 10 years since the debut of The Woods and Memetic (and 5 years since the debut of Something is Killing the Children!),” Tynion IV said in a statement provided by Boom! “The projects are all incredibly personal to Michael, Eryk, Werther, and I, and were foundational to me becoming the writer I am today. I’m thrilled to celebrate their anniversaries with brand new deluxe editions, and to hopefully see a whole new generation experience these stories for the first time.”
Boom!’s president of publishing and marketing, Filip Sablik, added, “James’ meteoric rise as one of the industry’s top creative voices has been incredible to watch and we are honored to have such a meaningful part of his library at Boom! Studios. This campaign is a celebration of his achievements as a writer and a way for both new and long-time fans to collect and own the formative stories that defined his first decade in the most deluxe formats possible. Here’s to another ten years with James!”
Oh, if you want even more to convince you to sign up for the campaign, perhaps this sneak peek at three slipcover designs from Dan Mora might be enough to convince you:
