Jennifer Lawerence would "100%" do more Hunger Games movies, but a producer says no
It could happen, but only if the right story came along.
The box office juggernaut that is The Hunger Games isn’t showing any signs of slowing down yet, despite the series concluding back in 2015. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, a prequel to the original films, is due out in just a few weeks while a stage adaptation of the first book is set to take the London stage in 2024. Even the star of the first four films, Jennifer Lawerence, seems keen to volunteer as tribute one more time, but it will only happen if the right story comes along.
Back in June, Lawerence was asked if she would be open to returning to the role of Katniss Everdeen “100%” if the opportunity arose. However, franchise producer Nina Jacobson is sceptical of it happening.
“Honestly, as much as I love Katniss, I think her story is complete,” Jacobson told Yahoo Entertainment. “And I think that Suzanne [Collins] feels that her story is complete.” Considering that the final film saw Katniss raising her new family in relative isolation, having retreated fully from the spotlight, it feels unlikely that there will be much to explore with the character.
Anything is possible when it comes to The Hunger Games, of course. “If that changes, and Suzanne has something she wants to say, and it involves Katniss,” Jacobson continued, leaving the door open for the star to return to the franchise that helped make her one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars.
Getting to see more of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss will also partially depend on the success of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes this November. If fans are still hungry for more Hunger Games and there is a story to tell for the character, then she might need to brush up on her archery skills in the future.
