Famed video game designer Hideo Kojima surprised by the first episode of The Boys spinoff, Gen V
The Metal Gear creator isn't shy about telling fans what shows and movies he is enjoying.
Hideo Kojima is best known for being the unique mind behind video games like Death Stranding and the Metal Gear series, but fans know that he also has strong opinions when it comes to film and TV. Considering how off-the-wall his video games usually are, fans might be shocked to discover that he was caught off-guard by the adult tone first episode of Gen V, the highly-anticipated spinoff of Amazon’s The Boys.
On his social media, he posted that he didn’t really know what to expect going into the show, thinking it would be a very toned-down version of The Boys but was pleased that the schoolyard spinoff kept all the blood and violence that fans of the original show would expect. Kojima’s post said that he had been expecting something akin to Euphoria with superpowers but that he was “satisfied” that the first episode stayed true to the adult tone of The Boys and planned to continue watching.
Kojima’s love for cinema and TV is well-documented. His profile on X states that 70% of his body is comprised of movies and, in past interviews, he has stated that he first planned to go into filmmaking before he made the switch to video game development while at university. He has frequently commented on social media about movies and shows he is currently watching, usually with the same level of enthusiasm he had for Amazon’s Gen V.
If you want to check out the show that caught Hideo Kojima by surprise, you can catch the first three episodes of Gen V now on Amazon Prime, with new episodes expected to air every Thursday.
