A return trip to a galaxy far, far away has us all wondering where Star Wars Battlefront 3 is

As gamers, the best (and often only) way to influence developers is by buying and playing their video games. If you want a sequel, you need to show that the market is there. Fans who have been hoping for a sequel to 2017's Star Wars Battlefront 2 have been showing up in the game, with it recording its highest-ever concurrent player count more than five years after its last update, once again raising hope for any word on Star Wars Battlefront 3.
For reference, the last update for Star Wars Battlefront 2 was released in April 2020, so we’ve had a whole presidential term since then. However, more than 35,000 people logged in last weekend to play it. For reference, this is higher than the previous post-update peak of around 10,000 players in January 2021 Why? Well, part of it is due to Andor, which helped remind people that, yes, Star Wars can be awesome. You can see in the game’s Steam Charts entry that there was a surge of interest while Andor season two was airing, but it carried on into late June for another reason – people still really want a Star Wars Battlefront 3.
Even the game’s devs have noticed, posting on Reddit that they appreciate the renewed love in a game that was for all intents and purposes dead. Fans are hoping that the sudden interest in Star Wars Battlefront 2 will help convince EA that they should get to work on the long-awaited sequel, but how likely that is remains a big question.
At the very least for now, people are having fun in Star Wars Battlefront 2 again and that’s what matters.
