One of the great things about Grand Theft Auto V is its longevity. It’s been almost 12 years since the Rockstar Studios game was released, and players are still discovering new things. One example is the Mount Chiliad Mystery, which refers to some mysterious markings on an image of Mount Chiliad. Fans have debated their meaning, and there are entire Subreddits dedicated to solving the mystery.
It shouldn’t surprise you to learn that the GTA 5 actors are constantly asked about it at conventions, which is exactly what happened in Sci-Fi Valley Con 2024. A player asked Shawn Fonteno and Ned Luke to shed some light on the mystery, hoping to finally close the case.
“The Mount Chiliad Mystery? It’s a mystery,” Luke playfully answered. “I know nothing about that,” Fonteno said.
“I put the solution out there one time on the interwebs. You go down to Del Puro, you dive in, swim out three miles, dive down 78 feet, not 79, not 77, and there you find the answer,” Luke said.
Case closed? Probably not. During an interview with GTA VI O’clock, former Rockstar Games designer Ben Hinchliffe said the markings were put there to mess with fans. It appears that’s what Luke was doing as well. A deep dive into Luke’s convention appearances shows that the actor enjoys giving fake answers that sound serious regarding the Mount Chiliad Mystery.
So, Luke is probably messing with us. However, you never know until you try. Why not break out your copy of GTA 5 and try for yourself? Even if it’s a wild goose chase, you’re still playing GTA 5, which is always a fun experience.
