If All Dogs Go To Heaven scarred you, the new game Puppergeist could help

We've been holding onto trauma from All Dogs Go To Heaven for more than 35 years, so hopefully Puppergeist will help start the healing process.

Not to dig up some heartbreaking childhood trauma, but remember the movie All Dogs Go To Heaven? That film explored the concept of death and the afterlife in a way that we simply weren’t ready for in 1989. Thankfully, a new visual novel has debuted during Steam Next Fest that could start to undo the pain that film caused by allowing players to descend into Doggie Underworld to find a young witch’s lost pup.

The demo for Puppergeist was released during Steam Next Fest, which is when the platform highlights all the great new games that are about to become our next obsession. Puppergeist is developed by Serenity Forge, the same company behind the very creepy-looking Fractured Blooms that was announced last year, as a visual novel that follows Claire, a witch in search of her lost dog in the depths of Doggie Underworld.

Doggie Underworld is filled with the souls of deceased dogs, each one with a story to tell. Unlike All Dogs Go To Heaven, Puppergeist looks delightfully charming and sweet; it seems to be a far less traumatizing and grotesque exploration of life after death. Because we deserve a chance to heal after 37 years of painful memories. A nice, wholesome encounter with death is exactly what we need, to be honest.

There is no release date for Puppergeist, though the demo was released during Steam Next Fest to help get fans excited for its eventual release. Here is hoping that it ends up being cheaper than the therapy we should have had following All Dogs Go To Heaven’s release.
