With a movie already on the way, Poppy Playtime's creators want to expand into "books" and "animation"

Legendary is working with Poppy Playtime creators Zach and Seth Belanger on a big-screen adaptation of the hit horror game, but if the brothers have anything to say about it, that won't be the only cross-media effort

You'll recall Popverse's reporting on the fact that Poppy Playtime, the YA indie horror hit that's drawn comparisons to Five Nights at Freddy's, is getting into the print game with the Poppy Playtime Orientation Notebook. That, combined with the movie confirmed to be in the works from Legendary Pictures, marks the beginning of Poppy Playtime's expansion outside of the world of video games.

And if game creators Zach and Seth Belanger have anything to say about it, that expansion will be a big one.

The game developers and brothers recently spoke with Rebecca McKendry for the latest issue of Fangoria magazine, and were asked about progress on the Poppy Playtime movie, which is currently without a release date, cast, or director.

"We're working closely with Legendary Entertainment to bring Poppy Playtime to the big screen," says Zach, "And looking forward to sharing more details down the road."

Seth concurs, "We can't reveal much detail, but we're excited to be able to share some updates soon with fans everywhere!"

Well that feels like a bit of a non-answer, no? Not that we blame the Brothers Belanger - studio legal teams can be pretty serious about keeping company secrets (unless, you're Tom Holland, for some reason). However, the brothers were able to reveal at least a little bit of their future plans - namely, that they're focusing on the Poppy Playtime franchise beyond its video game roots.

"We have a number of new ways to expand the Poppy Playtime universe in the works," admits Zach, "Whether that's through games, movies, books, animation, or other forms of storytelling. We want to make sure fans have multiple ways to engage. The excitement always comes from official trailers; you'll hear about it when Poppy is ready for prime time or rolling out something new."

I guess we'll just have to wait fro those trailers to drop, won't we?

Poppy Playtime Chapters 1-4 are available now.

You don't need to beat the game to prepare for the next one—here are all the major new and upcoming games coming our way.
