Bethesda reveals Oblivion remaster available now; but still no word on Elder Scrolls VI
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remaster is available to order now, but the announcement probably didn't feature the news that some Elder Scrolls fans really wanted - that is, a release date for Elder Scrolls VI

Now that is how you end a game announcement.
On April 22, Bethesda Softworks streamed a special announcement event to their YouTube page, during which they unveiled a special, remastered version of the fourth Elder Scrolls game (and staple of fantasy RPGs), Oblivion. Along with its many new features (which we'll get to in a moment), Bethesda revealed that the Oblivion Remaster would be available the same day of the announcement.
It's a thrilling way to end a livestream, and yet, I can't help but feel that a few of the over 200K watchers left the stream feeling a bit disappointed for one reason; namely, that there was almost no mention of the still-unnamed, still-undated Elder Scrolls VI. The upcoming game's only appearance came from one presenter, who mentioned that the team was "hard at work on the sixth."
Sorry, Elder Scrolls players. But to be fair, Bethesda only promised an Oblivion announcement, and that's exactly what they gave us. And what an announcement it was! Along with gorgeous, brand new footage of Oblivion's updated visuals, the folks at Bethesda revealed a host of updates coming to the remaster, including:
- Both Oblivion story expansion packs - Shivering Isles & Knights of the Nine
- A new levelling system that combined the original Oblivion system with Skyrim's
- Newly recorded dialogue lines to differentiate the game's races
- A new lighting system that reacts to the environment for realer, crisper visuals
- A locomotion system rebuilt from scratch
...and much more.
As a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls myself, I might've been one of the folks disappointed by no news of VI had I known that would be the case heading into today's livestream. But I have to say that what the Bethesda team has done with Oblivion, already one of the all-time great fantasy games, to bring it into the modern gaming world, is news enough to satiate me as I wait for the next installment.
Especially since we're getting a whole new look at this little prick:
