2025 continues to be a good year for Nintendo. Their latest console, the Switch 2, became the fastest-selling console in US history (even if third-party developers aren’t feeling the benefit just yet). In just a few weeks, the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4 will release for the Switch 2, which has just passed the 10-million-unit milestone.

The news comes as Nintendo is gearing up for a crucial holiday season for its new console. The latest earnings report from Nintendo discloses that 10.36 million Switch 2 units have been sold globally since the console launched in June 2025. That far exceeds their expectations (to say nothing of our own) for the console, which is now expected to sell 19 million units in its first year. This is an increase from the 15 million sales they expected.

In the second quarter, Nintendo says that it sold 4.54 million Switch 2 consoles, which is down from the initial demand at launch. However, more than 10 million units sold so far puts the console in a good position going into the holiday season, where the Switch 2 is expected to be a popular purchase. However, economic uncertainty in the US and beyond could potentially stifle spending on luxury items like new consoles.

Meanwhile, Nintendo is continuing to grow its catalogue of first-party Switch 2 games. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, Kirby Air Riders, and Metroid Prime 4 are all out in 2025, while next year has Splatoon Raiders and Mario Tennis Fever to help boost sales of the Switch 2. After the 2025 holiday season, the next big hurdle Nintendo needs to overcome is the poor sales of third-party games. However, they’re clearly off to a good start by getting 10 million Switch 2 consoles onto the market in the first six months.
