Nintendo Switch 2 is coming June 5, 2025 and it is fixing our biggest complaint about the original Switch

A bigger hard drive is a better quality-of-life improvement than a better microphone or better graphics.

The long wait for the new Nintendo console is nearly over, as the company confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be coming out even earlier than we thought. Rather than landing just in time for the 2025 holiday season, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be out on June 5, 2025, and it is bringing some pretty impressive upgrades with it.

We already suspected that Nintendo Switch 2 would come with mouse controls built into the Joy-Con 2, but the Direct confirmed it for us. However, that isn’t the most impressive new feature of the console. Nintendo is going all-in on the social aspect of gaming, making it easier to open a voice chat function with just the console and introducing the Nintendo Switch Camera as well.

There are some interesting internal specs that are changing for the Nintendo Switch 2. We aren’t surprised that it has a larger screen for more powerful graphics, but probably the biggest quality-of-life improvement announced for the new console is the internal storage, which will be eight times larger than the Nintendo Switch. This solves one of our biggest issues with the original Switch.

There will also be Switch 2 Editions for some of the biggest games on the Switch, including Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. The Nintendo Switch Online membership will also get an upgrade for the new console as GameCube games – including Soul Caliber and Legend of Zelda: Windwaker – will be available at launch for the console.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is coming on June 5, 2025.

You don't need to beat the game to prepare for the next one—here are all the major new and upcoming games coming our way.
