Watch the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct livestream as it happens

We're hoping to see a release date for the Switch 2 and a maybe even a sequel to Mario Odyssey at launch.

The long wait for the Switch 2 is almost over, as Nintendo has finally gotten tired of all the leaks and rumors and is giving us some actual details about its next console with its own Nintendo Direct broadcast. After the incredible (and, frankly, unexpected) success of the Switch, we’ve all got high hopes that Nintendo will deliver on their follow-up.

You can watch the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct along with us below live at 9 am EST/  6 am PST on April 2, 2025. We don’t know exactly what the company will show during the broadcast. We expect there will be some hardware specs shared, along with some of the unique features of the console (are those mice in the new Joy-Cons?) along with a handful of game announcements like a sequel to Mario Odyssey and possibly a new Legend of Zelda game.

The most likely news we’re going to get is the release date for the Nintendo Switch 2 and how much it is going to cost. Traditionally, Nintendo consoles haven’t had the same graphical power of their PlayStation or Xbox competitors but they’ve also been much less expensive which has helped keep them from falling behind Sony or Microsoft.

This Nintendo Direct is focused entirely on the Switch 2. If you want more information about upcoming games, Nintendo had a separate direct about Switch games coming out before the end of the year last week. We covered the whole video and shared our excitement to finally get to play Metroid Prime 4 and a surprisingly dark Pac-Man game, but it is already looking like a great year for Nintendo games even before the Switch 2 launches.

You don't need to beat the game to prepare for the next one—here are all the major new and upcoming games coming our way.
