Metroid Prime 4: Beyond drops a new trailer featuring new enemies, new powers, and a badass Akira slide

Why even ride a motorcycle if you're not going to pay homage to Akira along the way?

We’ve been waiting a very long time for Metroid Prime 4 to come out. The wait is finally almost over, as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond hits the Nintendo Switch 2 in just a few weeks. Nintendo has just dropped a new trailer for the game, which includes a look at Samus’ new and classic abilities, some of the hostile wildlife she’ll have to contend with, and that all-important Akira slide on her motorcycle.

To paraphrase Jane Austen, it is a truth universally acknowledged that when you put a badass character on a motorcycle, they must do an Akira slide at some point. It is just the way it is, especially if you are dabbling in the sci-fi genre. So the moment when Samus leaned over and did that sharp turn on her futuristic bike, our faces lit up like it was Christmas day. No matter how old we get, we never get tired of seeing an homage to Akira wherever we go.

There are plenty of other cool bits in the new Metroid Prime 4: Beyond trailer, such as the wolf-like enemies that seem to be hunting Samus through a frozen landscape or her new psychic abilities. We see her scan a boss to reveal some of its weaknesses, which will certainly be useful. And those graphics are showing off the best that the Switch 2 is capable of. There is all the fun horror vibes we've been desperate to see back in the series. All in all, it is a great trailer that happens to include that famous Akira slide at the end.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond comes to the Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2025.
