There's not enough new Mega Man games, to the point the Capcom stockholders are asking them about it at stockholder meetings

The Mega Man video game series is one of the most iconic in all of gaming history, which is probably why Capcom is so protective of it. However, you could be forgiven for thinking that Capcom has forgotten about him. In fact, it has been so long since a new Mega Man game came out that the company’s shareholders are starting to take note.
Like most publicly traded companies, Capcom routinely makes reports on their financial situation. As part of this, they invite shareholders to ask them questions about the future of the company, which is where the topic came up. A mainline Mega Man game hasn’t been released since 2018 and there are no confirmed plans for any games in the franchise. Turns out their shareholders are wondering where exactly Mega Man has been all these years. Not one but two questions about Mega Man came out of the most recent financial report.
The first question was centered around Capcom’s plans for the Mega Man series. The answer the company gave was short on details. “The Mega Man series is one of our most important IPs, and we are continuously considering ways to develop it further. However, we do not have any additional information we can share at this time.”
The other question was with regards to merchandise sales from the Mega Man series and received a similarly vague answer. “While we do not disclose individual sales figures by IP, we receive a particularly high volume of inquiries about the Mega Man series from overseas markets. We will continue to focus on expanding this business further.”
The upside is that clearly Capcom hasn’t forgotten that Mega Man exists completely – if only because their shareholders keep pestering them about it. However, considering that the Monster Hunter series continues to be the biggest-selling games in the company’s history, so it isn’t surprising that Mega Man has taken a bit of a backseat in recent years.
