Magic: The Gathering’s Spider-Man set spotlights one of Marvel’s newest Spider-Verse characters, Sun-Spider
Sun-Spider first appeared in a 2020 issue of Spider-Verse, and she's now made the jump to her very own Magic: The Gathering card!

Magic: The Gathering x Marvel's Spider-Man has been a loving ode to the Spider-Man comics both old and new. From transforming Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko's original Amazing Fantasy #15 cover into a Magic: The Gathering card, to highlighting the wonders of the Spider-Verse, the Spider-Man set game design team at Wizards of the Coast has done a smashing job at representing all eras of the Web-Slinger.
Nowhere else is the Spider-Man Universes Beyond set team's deep commitment to representing comic book lore more apparent than in their inclusion of one of the newest Spider-Verse characters, Sun-Spider, in the set. Sun-Spider, also known as Charlotte Webber, is a hero from Earth-20023, and originally debuted in 2020's Spider-Verse #6. Created by Dayn Broder, Sun-Spider was later fleshed out in a story from 2022's Edge of the Spider-Verse #4 by Tee Franklin and Jethro Morales. Sun-Spider's appearance in the set is with a card called Sun-Spider, Nimble Webber and features art by Justyna Dura that shows off Charlie Webber's spider-powered crutches.

Sun-Spider is a groundbreaking Spider character because she has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a condition that affects her joints. She's hyperflexible but also experiences chronic pain and fatigue, making her life as Sun-Spider a complicated one (in perfect Spider character fashion, because all of these heroes have their own struggles!). What's unique about her style of webslinging is that she uses her crutches as webshooters, a nice way of tying in her life as someone with EDS into her superhero persona.
Sun-Spider isn't the only newcomer to join the Magic: The Gathering set. There's also a card for Miles Morales's clone, Shift, who first debuted in comics in 2021's Miles Morales: Spider-Man #25. Created by Saladin Ahmed and Carmen Carnero, Shift has been welcomed into Miles Morales's family, where he's been able to get the care and love he should've had in his life before he first encountered Miles.
Magic: The Gathering x Marvel's Spider-Man will be released on September 26, 2025.
