Well, we know what we're doing come May next year. 

Rockstar Games has officially announced that Grand Theft Auto VI, the latest game in one of their most financially successful franchises, will be hitting shelves May 26, 2026. If that date sounds a little familiar to our Popverse readers, it should; that's only four days after the release of the next Star Wars film, The Mandaorian and Grogu - and just a couple weeks after the promised theatrical titan, Avengers: Doomsday.

Previously, the gaming world was expected GTA VI around the end of 2025 (because what better way to celebrate Christmas than vehicular larceny turned murder?). And in an announcement made May 2, the folks at Rockstar acknowledged the delay, saying:

"We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game."

Interestingly, The Mandalorian & Grogu is also the result of a different kind of delay. As you probably know if you're a Star Wars fan, the Jon Favreau-directed film came out of development of a fourth season of Disney+'s The Mandalorian, plans for which were halted by the 2023 writers' and actors' strikes.

But as they say - all good things come to those who wait, whether you're a GTA fan, Star Wars nerd, or a mixture of them both. And if you fall into the latter category, start marking your calendars now. You're gonna be pretty busy about a year from now. And hey, that's only a couple weeks after Avengers: Doomsday comes out too!

GTA VI comes to consoles May 26, 2026. The Mandalorian and Grogu comes to theaters May 22, 2026. We recommend not trying to experience them both at the same time.
