Have you heard Final Fantasy VII Remake part 3 has been canceled? It's a lie, acording to director Naoki Hamaguchi

If the sequel to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth had been cancelled, it was news to Naoki Hamaguchi.

Whenever a video game is as highly anticipated as Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3, rumors are going to start swirling as fans and journalists try to find even the smallest scoop to share. Often, an unsubstantiated rumor will make its way around the fandom long before the truth gets shared, so Square Enix is keen to put fans at ease and say for certain that the sequel to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is indeed going ahead.

During the Final Fantasy Rebirth panel at MCM London 2025, director Naoki Hamaguchi took the opportunity to put certain rumors to bed.

“So, I just wanted to clear this up,” Hamaguchi said through his translator. “At the Meet and Greet we had out there, someone came up to me and said, ‘Oh, I’ve heard this rumor that development on the third game is being cancelled,’ and that is absolutely not happening. It is going ahead.”

In fact, despite being in London for the event, Hamaguchi is still working hard on the third part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake project. As soon as he finished with the panel, he told the audience that he was heading back to his hotel room to review some of the levels that the Japanese developers had been working on while he has been away. So not only is Final Fantasy VII Remake part 3 still happening, it is literally being worked on as we speak.

It just goes to show that you can’t believe everything you read on the internet.
