Five Nights at Freddy's studio Blumhouse is getting into comics - via video games, of all things

Fear the Spotlight, one of Blumhouse's first in-house video games, is getting an in-house graphic novel from the team of Patricia Villeto and Claudia Leonardi

Having produced one of the most successful video game adaptations in cinematic history - that is, Five Nights at Freddy's - it only makes sense that horror titan Blumhouse would get into the video game business (you might even recall Popverse's reporting on the Blumhouse Games division). And now, it seems like they're happy with what they've created so far - happy enough to use one of their games to get into another division entirely: comics.

Announced October 22, the teen/survival horror game Fear the Spotlight is getting a graphic novel treatment.

The news comes from Deadline, who reported that Blumhouse would be teaming up with publisher Asgard Books to retell the adventure players got from Fear the Spotlight in the comic book format. In case you aren't aware, that adventure revolves around high schoolers Vivian Singh and Amy Tanaka, who sneak into their school at night to conduct a séance, only to be put into the crosshairs of an ancient, powerful evil that takes the form of a stage spotlight. Known for its stealth gameplay and puzzle challenges, the game currently holds an "overwhelmingly positive" rating on Steam.

Adapting the game into graphic novel form will be two artists with a history of game-adjacent work. Writer Patricia Villeto tackled much lighter gaming fare as a scribe of the animated Sonic Prime series, while artists Claudia Leonardi's work has appeared in the surreal-and-slightly-scary Life is Strange. According to Deadline, Blumhouse will be funding the GN through Kickstarter, the campaign for which is expected some time in eraly 2026.

In the meantime, Fear the Spotlight is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S now.
