No, Dead by Daylight's Witcher outfits won't let you access Geralt's mutant abilities... but there's a lore reason why (maybe)

Let's be honest - Dead by Daylight fans who know "the bathtub scene" understand that The White Wolf's real power is in his looks. And The Witcher outfits do give us that

Temper your expectations just a little bit, Witcher fans. The collaboration between The White Wolf and popular asymmetric horror game Dead by Daylight won't be quite as similar to Wild Hunt as you might have been expecting. Announced at PAX East 2025, Geralt of Rivia will indeed be descending into The Fog, although without the mutant abilities gamers might know him by. But also at the convention, some of the folks behind Dead By Daylight explained that there's a reason for that within DBD's lore...

Maybe, or maybe it was an off-the-cuff joke. Let us explain.

Game studio Behaviour Interactions, which is responsible for Dead by Daylight, announced their Witcher collaboration via a small trailer that saw lead character Geralt of Rivia in a setting familiar to fans of the horror game. After the crowd died down (it took a while), the moderator on stage brought up the fact that, though Geralt himself does appear in the upcoming addition to the game (voiced by OG actor Doug Cockle), his mutant abilities do not. Fortunatley, Dead by Daylight product director Rose Li was on stage to explain why.

Sort of.

It is all because of The Entity, Li said, which "suppresses all magic powers" that Geralt of Rivia would normally have in a game. The Entity, in case you haven't played Dead by Daylight before, is a nigh-omniscient force that traps our heroes and bids our villains to make their kills. In the past, The Entity has been able to control horror powerhouses such as Castlevania's Dracula and Tokyo Ghoul's Ken Kaneki. Sorry to say it, but it would make sense that a villain of that magnitude could depower even The Continent's fiercest.

Then again, what Li could have been doing is just making a quip about the game not being able to include Geralt's powers for other reasons. What those reasons could be, we'll leave you to speculate on, although "copyright issues" and "lack of enough devs" spring to our minds pretty quickly. We're going with the lore reasoning, though, if only because it just sounds cooler.

The Witcher Collection comes to Dead by Daylight June 3.
