When it comes to the Five Nights at Freddy's collaboration that the Dead by Daylight devs announced at PAX East 2025, the biggest piece of news is probably the introduction of Springtrap as a playable killer, voiced by none other than horror icon Matthew Lillard. And while this was certainly exciting for the fans, another, less flashy announcement regarding the FNAF may be even more worthy of your attention... as it will change the Dead by Daylight maps forever.

Let's back up - the announcement was made at the Dead by Daylight 9th anniversary panel, presented at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center on May 9. One the speakers on stage for the FNAF announcement was game director Mathieu Côté, who told fans that, along with Springtrap, the collaboration will feature a new map of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria, the central location of most of the games and the Blumhouse film adaptation.

But it wasn't that, either, that got fans' hearts pumping; it was what Côté brought up next.

"We will have a separate queue," said Côté of the Pizzeria, "Where you will be able to go exclusively in this map. And we are going to be incorporating that into every upcoming map in the future, also."

Already one of the noisiest crowds we witnessed at this year's PAX East, the assembled Dead by Daylight fanbase exploded at this deceptively simple announcement. If you're not familiar with DBD, "queueing" is an eternal but necessary evil that online players must go through to play a round. Essentially, they wait in a lobby area while the server finds them space (and other players) to begin their game. Picture it as one line to get to the same checkout. With this update, Behaviour is opening up another register, and many more registers to come.

What's unclear as of this writing is whether Behaviour will retroactively add separate queues to already existing maps, which we could see being highly desirable to players who prefer one map over the others. Even if the game doesn't do that, though, the promise of a separate queue for every new map means a much shorter wait time for players and, we have to assume, more fans that will be willing to wait.
