Critical Role's Ashley Johnson enjoyed making a fake porno for the show, but that doesn't mean it was a success

When you’re playing Dungeons & Dragons, you never know where your campaign might take you. And that's especially true for the cast of Critical Role.
Since its launch in 2015, the Critical Role web series has had some interesting campaigns. The cast have done some unusual story moments, but one of the strangest ones was when they made a porno. Speaking to a crowd at The Legend Continues: A Critical Role Cast Panel at C2E2 2025, the Critical Role cast recounted that provocative moment.
“I really liked when we were making a porno. Like, we all panicked,” Ashley Johnson recalls.
“For those who maybe aren’t caught up with some of the campaigns, this was in the story. It was a deceptive thing. They were acting this out,” Matthew Mercer explains.
“With words! With words,” Laura Bailey clarifies before anyone got the wrong idea. “But Ashley, we failed at that. We did not succeed,” Marisha Ray reminded her.
“But sometimes I like the failures, because we all have to work together, and figure out how to find a way out,” Johnson replied. “It was chaos getting out of that. It was real bad,” Bailey recalled.
