The world of Critical Role is ever-expanding. The first season of The Mighty Nien is coming soon to Prime Video, Campaign 4 began last month with a bigger cast and a new DM, and the company’s Darrington Press published the rules for their own RPG system, Daggerheart. Now, original Critical Role DM Matt Mercer says that they’re bringing some “really cool announcements” to PAX Unplugged later this month for Daggerheart fans.

During a panel at Lucca Comics & Games 2025, Matt Mercer explained that “watching the community accept it so readily” was one of the big positives of launching Critical Role’s first game, even if keeping up with demand had been a real challenge. However, he assures fans that Critical Role isn’t finished developing Daggerheart and that more big announcements are just around the corner.

“We announced a bunch at Gen Con,” Matt Mercer said. “We’ll have some really cool announcements coming up at PAX [Unplugged] that I’m really excited to talk about. But it’s also terrifying. You know, it’s an exciting, terrifying experience to have something that people are invested in enough that you don’t want to disappoint them.”

For those wondering, PAX Unplugged is November 21-23, 2025 in Philadelphia, and, yes, Popverse is going to be there to get involved in all the action. So, the moment that Critical Role makes those new announcements about Daggerheart at PAX Unplugged, we’ll be the first to let you know.

Of course, we can’t speculate exactly what those new Daggerheart announcements from PAX Unplugged will be, but, knowing the folks at Critical Role, they’re going to be very exciting.
