One of the great things about playing an RPG game is the way we fall in love with the characters. RPG video games give us a more intimate relationship with the characters, which makes it hard to say goodbye when the game is over. That’s one of the reasons why it’s fun to speculate on what happened to the characters after the story concluded.
It turns out the actors enjoy doing this too.
The cast of Baldur’s Gate 3 were recently asked to speculate on the fate of their characters decades after the game’s epilogue. The answers were interesting.
“I don’t know, because you can choose so many different versions. I haven’t got to the end of my playthrough yet, so I don’t know,” Astarion actor Neil Newbon admits while on the Baldur's Gate 3 panel at this weekend's Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle. “I don’t know what I’m going to do. I have an inkling of where I’m going to go, but I’m trying to leave it very open. I want to be a player playing it, not prejudge where I’m going to go in the story.”
“I’m riding a dragon with her hatched Githyanki egg,” Lae’zel actor Devora Wilde says. “I like to think that Lae’zel and her now hatched egg would be enjoying a lovely life, maybe somewhere near a cottage. A life of less violence perhaps.”
“She’d be drinking red wine all day and bored out of her mind,” Newborn playfully adds.
Everyone teased Aliona Baranova, noting her character Corinna the Squirrel would be dead, due to the short lifespan of squirrels. This made Shadowheart actor Jennifer English realize that her character would be in mourning.
“Mourning the squirrel. She’s got one of those hats with the lacy veil in the front, kind of Queen Victoria,” English says. “She retires from leading her cult and fascism and just lives happily ever after with a bunch of owlbears.”
