Are you a fan of Jon Favreau's Christmas comedy classic Elf? You might remember the rocking horse at the center of one of its funniest scenes. Well, it could be yours soon... if you've got the money.
Though the renowned filmmaker is widely known nowadays for his work inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars, the movie that put him on many studios' radars was a simple but heartwarming Christmas comedy. Elf was an instant success, resonating with both critics and audiences and earning over $220 million worldwide on a production budget estimated around $33 million.
If you've watched the movie countless times over the years (it's just turned 20!), you're probably aware of the famous scene in which Buddy (Will Ferrell) claims to have had a good night's sleep... of only 40 minutes, leaving him with more than enough time to create a rocking horse from scratch. The entire flick is among the best Christmas comedies ever, yet this specific moment's comedic timing is especially golden.
We can't promise the prop going to auction on March 12 through Prop Store Auction was made out of a TV table's wood, but it's screen-tested and not that expensive, actually. Bidding for the lot will start and end on the aforementioned day, with the huge auction beginning at 9:00am PDT. According to the site, those interested can "tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace."
While William Wallace's claymore sword from Braveheart is expected to sell much higher, this cute piece of memorabilia from Elf is starting at only $3,000, with the estimated price probably sitting around $6,000 - $12,000. That sounds quite reasonable if you've got the cash and want a piece of Hollywood history in your living room or wherever.
