If you've done your 'must-watch modern action movies' homework, you probably know (and love) Dredd. If you haven't, catch it before it leaves Netflix later this week.
We'd heard the news before, but Netflix's monthly update on the shows and movies that are leaving the platform confirmed that 2012's Dredd, one of the best comic book adaptations of all time, will be departing the service on February 29.
It's only one of the many blockbusters leaving Netflix this month, as the company continues to double down on temporal offerings licensed from other studios and rival companies looking to make extra money on the side. Last week, we told you about Morbius leaving the service on February 28, and Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part One is departing on the same day alongside Dredd, right before its sequel hits theaters on March 1.
Dredd marked the second attempt at getting the character and its dystopian world right in live-action. While it didn't become a mainstream hit, it resonated with critics and most moviegoers, eventually becoming a modern cult classic that, somehow, still hasn't received a sequel in any shape or form.
Karl Urban starred in the movie as Judge Dredd, a law enforcer given the power of judge, jury, and executioner in a vast metropolis called Mega-City One that lies in the middle of a post-apocalyptic wasteland. He and his rookie partner, Judge Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), see a typical (bloody) workday turned upside down when the drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) locks down a high-rise mega-block and threatens everyone living inside. Yep, it makes for a sweet double feature with The Raid (2011).Want to know what's coming up next in pop culture? Check out Popverse's guides to:
