Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld is writing a memoir about his history with comics (and his own 30+ year career)

The man behind Cable, X-Force, Youngblood, and other Extreme heroes will tell all in 2025

In a career that’s lasted more than three decades, Rob Liefeld has been many things, from one of the hottest creators in comics to the butt of jokes about the excesses of 1990s comic book art — and then back again, as creations like Deadpool and Cable found new audiences on the big screen that followed the characters back to their starting points.

Along the way, he helped found Image Comics, created some of the most popular characters in the past 30 years, and found time to launch a podcast illuminating his own history with comics. All of which is to say, Liefeld has had a fascinating career so far — and the fact that he’s now writing a book about it all is something that we should all be very excited about.

Liefeld’s memoir will share a title with his podcast, with Robservations currently scheduled for an early 2025 release through indie publishing house BenBella Books. According to the publisher, the book “promises to provide readers with an intimate look at his journey from a pastor's son in Orange County, CA, to becoming one of the most celebrated figures in the comic book industry,” including “lift[ing] the veil on the inner workings of comic book publishers, the suits behind Hollywood studios, and pivotal moments that have shaped modern pop culture.” If that sounds ambitious… well, that’s entirely in keeping with Rob Liefeld’s entire career, really.

In addition to writing the book, Liefeld will create 10 original illustrations to be included throughout.

“I have had a lifelong love affair with comic books,” Liefeld said in a statement accompanying the announcement of Robservations. “They have been my passion since I was seven years old. Having been fortunate to break into the business as a teenager in the 80s, I’ve seen five decades of tremendous change, quite a bit of upheaval, and a fair amount of rebellion and betrayal. Some of which I started. It’s been quite a ride, and I’m eager to share this incredible ride with everyone.”

All we can hope is that Liefeld will fully spill the beans on what really went down during his involvement in some of the most pivotal moments in the industry’s past few decades. Who doesn’t want to read the tell-all portions about DC’s New 52 or his on-again, off-again relationship with Marvel?
